Installing drupal can be very tricky for beginners like me. So I write this guide to enable other beginners who wish to install drupal without much headache.
You need 3 systems install in your PC and this are Apache, MySQL and PHP which is commonly called as AMP. When you add Drupal to that, it will be called as DAMP.
Pre-installation requirements:
a. OS must be Windows 7
b. Acquia DAMP - Download Here
c. Drupal 6 - Download Here
d. Firefox - it's optional but you should have one, in my case, I prepare to use this browser. Download here
so lets get started:
1. The first part is downloading and installing Acquia DAMP.
2. After downloading Acquia DAMP software, double click the executable file.
Do you want the following program to make changes to this computer?
3. Click "Yes"
Welcome to the Acquia Dev Desktop installer
The Acquia Desktop provides the fastest way to get started using Acquia Drupal.
4. Click "Next"
Select components
Select the components you want to install; clear the components you do not want to install.
Click Next when you are ready to continue.
Overview
You are about to install the following:
-Acquia Drupal 7.x.x
Drupal 7.x with modules
-Acquia Dev Desktop Control Panel
An application to manage the Acquia Dev Desktop
-Apache 2.2.17

6. Click "Next"
License agreement
I accept the terms of this license agreement:
The default selected is YES
7. Click "Next"
Choose install locations
Dev Desktop stack location (Apache, MySQL, etc):
Port settings
The ports listed below will be used. For example:
http://localhost:0882/drupal
Apache web server port: 8082
MySQL database port: 33066
9. Click "Next"
Drupal settings
10. Click "Next"
Review your information
11. Click "Next"
Ready to install
12. Click "Next"
After installation, windows firewall will popup, this is normally happen when your firewall is turn on.
13. Click "Allow access"
14. Click "Allow access"
Congratulations, you're done!
"Lunch the Acquia Dev Desktop control panel to start the stack and access your new Drupal web site!" by default this option is check so leave as it is.
15. Click "Finish"
16. The second part is downloading and installing Drupal 6 from Drupal.org
17. After successfully downloading the zip file, I created a folder name "BlogSite" wherein all the extracted drupal files are save. As shown below:
a. folder for drupal 6 files
b. drupal-6.22.zip, compressed file downloaded from drupal.org
c. This are files after drupal-6.22.zip was extracted
18. Acquia Dev Desktop control panel setup
17. After selecting "More...", "Settings"window will popup as shown below.
a. Click "Import" to show "Import site" window
b. Click "Browse" and locate the folder name "BlogSite" where the drupal files reside and click "OK"
c. "Create new database" should be selected
d. Provide your "New Db Name", any name with one word and no spaces.
e. Provide your "Server", same as d.
f. Click "Import"
18. Default internet browser will popup, in my case Firefox.
a. This is the installation address. No worry, the browser will automatically put it there.
b. Click "Install Drupal in English"
19. Drupal installation will ask for the following required information such as "Site name", "Site e-mail address", "Username", "E-mail address","Password" and "Confirm password". I guess it's a self explanatory entries hence you can read additional information below each box. For "Default time zone", leave as it is.
20. Select "Clean URLs - Enabled"
21. Lastly, for "Update Notification", it is recommended to "Check for updates automatically" and click "Save and continue"
Congratulations, your done!
To login your drupal site as an administrator or what they call as "Super User", use the password and username you define in 19.
Note: This guide has not been tested with Windows XP and Vista.
